Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, exchanged playful banter with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike during a visit by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to the minister in Abuja.

In a video shared on Instagram on Friday, Davido repeatedly told Wike, “I won. I beat you guys,” while the minister, seated nearby, disputed the claim.

Wike responded with a smile, saying, “No, no,” before asking, “You beat us?”

Davido replied, “I beat you,” maintaining the playful exchange.

The interaction ended on a friendly note when Davido prostrated before Wike and hugged him, drawing laughter, cheers and applause from those in the room.

The exchange came days after the August 15 Osun State governorship election, in which Governor Adeleke won re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, ahead of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11.

Davido had actively campaigned for his uncle before the election and criticised the Federal Government over what he described as the use of federal influence in the poll. He also publicly opposed joining the APC and called on United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the election amid concerns over possible violence.

Following Adeleke’s victory, Wike said the governor won because President Bola Tinubu allowed the election to be free and fair.

Wike rejected claims that the Federal Government manipulated the poll, arguing that Tinubu allowed the democratic process to take its course.

The governor visited Wike in Abuja on Thursday as part of consultations following his re-election. He had earlier met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.

The video of Davido and Wike has since attracted reactions online, with some users linking the singer’s “I won” remark to the outcome of the Osun election.
