Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed concern about his safety ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi raised the concern during an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, saying he had been the subject of petitions and investigations in different places.
The former Anambra State governor said he was uncertain about what could happen to him before the election.
“As I speak to you, I have also been petitioned, I’ve been investigated everywhere. Like I said before, I’m not even sure whether I’ll still be alive at the end of this,” Obi said.
He said he was relying on God for protection and appealed to political leaders to ensure a peaceful environment ahead of the elections.
“I’m praying to God for His protection because at this stage, I’m not sure what is happening,” he added.
Obi also urged state governors to allow presidential candidates and other political aspirants to campaign freely in their states.
He said governors had the right to support candidates of their choice but should not prevent other political parties and candidates from participating in campaigns.
“Some of them will be campaigning for presidency tomorrow. They will be campaigning for other offices tomorrow. Let’s have peace,” he said.
The NDC candidate recalled his time as governor of Anambra State, saying his administration allowed politicians from other parties to campaign in the state, including those supporting his opponents.
He urged political leaders to uphold peaceful political competition and allow all candidates to participate freely ahead of the 2027 elections.
