A Nigerian national, Chukwunonso Uzoma-Eze, 19, has been arrested and charged with the murder of Marvins Antoine, a football player at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Uzoma-Eze was arraigned on Monday at New Bedford District Court in Massachusetts and pleaded not guilty to the charge. He agreed to be extradited to Rhode Island, where the fatal stabbing occurred.
According to Providence police, Antoine was stabbed shortly after midnight on Saturday in the parking lot outside Mezzo Lounge following an altercation. He sustained a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead.
Police also allege that another 19-year-old UMass Dartmouth football player, Kensley Macean, was stabbed in the head and neck during the incident.
Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said at a Saturday news conference that authorities were working to secure justice for Antoine's family.
“I want to bring justice to the family of Antoine. I couldn’t begin to think about how difficult it must be for them to have the need to mourn the loss of their child,” Perez said.
Uzoma-Eze's U.S. immigration history
Uzoma-Eze entered the United States in 2015 on a B-2 tourist visa. According to the report cited by Fox News, he received two extensions before remaining in the country after his authorised stay expired.
The U.S. government granted him deferred action in September 2022. He subsequently submitted further applications in February and October 2025, with the latter request reportedly approved on October 8, 2025.
The murder charge stems from the Saturday incident in Providence, Rhode Island. Uzoma-Eze's not-guilty plea means the allegations against him remain to be determined in court.
The case is expected to proceed in Rhode Island following his extradition from Massachusetts.
