Kabiru Adamu Abdullahi, a long-time ally of Kwankwasiyya leader and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abdullahi announced his resignation from the NDC in a letter addressed to the party chairman of Kofar Ruwa Ward in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.
The politician had previously sworn on the Qur’an to reaffirm his loyalty to Kwankwaso after falling out with Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Explaining his latest decision, Abdullahi cited frustration with what he described as “failed promises” within the NDC. He also said he would support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign under the APC.
“I have been with Kwankwaso for 29 years but have only benefited from failed promises. I will go to where I will be respected more,” he said.
In his resignation letter, Abdullahi thanked the NDC for the opportunity to serve but said his membership of the party had ended with immediate effect.
His defection marks a shift for a politician who has publicly maintained a long-standing political relationship with Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
