The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, at its Lagos Campus hostel.
Alayande, a student of the Law School’s Enugu Campus, was temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus while participating in an externship programme.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho, the incident occurred at about 4:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The school said preliminary information indicated that Alayande fell from the rooftop of the hostel and died from injuries sustained in the incident.
“The student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the statement said.
The institution added that it was working with relevant authorities and the deceased’s family to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident. According to the police, the hostel matron reported the case after Alayande was found unresponsive on the premises.
Police officers visited the scene and evacuated the body to a morgue, while an investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.
Reports indicate that a hostel mate and a relative had found a note believed to have been written by Alayande and subsequently began searching for her before she was found unresponsive following the fall.
The Nigerian Law School expressed grief over the incident and extended its condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by her death.
The institution also appealed to the media and members of the public to respect the family’s privacy while they mourn.
“Management of the Nigerian Law School respectfully appeals to everyone to honour the family’s wishes and refrain from any actions that may further compound their grief at this difficult moment,” the statement added.
