The Igbo Mandate Movement Group has extended warm congratulations to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, following his recognition with three prestigious honours: the Sun Legislative Icon Award, and dual recognitions from Daily Times and New Telegraph newspapers, all conferred in 2026 for his outstanding contributions to national development and parliamentary service.*
In a statement issued by it's National Coordinator, Igboeli Arinze, the group described the awards as a fitting testament to what it called Kalu's "impeccable legislative performance" over the past year, noting that his dedication to lawmaking has continued to earn him recognition from some of Nigeria's most respected media institutions.
"These honours are not just personal achievements for our brother, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; they are a validation of the intellectual rigour he has brought to Nigeria's law-making process," the group said. "His contributions have helped push forward some of the most consequential conversations in our national life today, including the ongoing push for state policing ,a reform many believe is central to addressing Nigeria's security challenges."
The group commended Kalu's role in shaping legislative debate around decentralised policing and constitutional review, describing his approach as thoughtful, research-driven, and reflective of a legislator who understands the weight of the issues before the National Assembly. It further noted that his consistency in championing people-oriented bills , motions and projects has distinguished him as one of the most productive members of the 10th Assembly.
Beyond his legislative record, the Igbo Mandate Movement Group held up the Deputy Speaker as an example worth emulating, particularly for young people across the South-East and the country at large. "Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu represents what is possible when discipline, education, and service to the people converge," the statement read. "For Igbo youths especially, his journey from Bende to the number six position in Nigeria's political hierarchy is proof that hard work and integrity still count.
