The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its state chapters and officials to stop registering support groups or collecting fees for their registration.
The party said registration of support groups is free and can only be handled by its Directorate of Support Groups at the national headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, warned state chairmen and other party officials against demanding money from support groups seeking registration.
Director said all registration requests and inquiries should be directed to the Directorate of Support Groups at the national headquarters.
“No state chapter or official is authorised to register support groups or collect money for the process,” he said.
The NDC urged all state chapters to comply with the directive, warning that any official found violating it would face disciplinary action in line with the party’s constitution.
The party also acknowledged the role of its support groups, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements, in its activities.
Director said the NDC would continue to provide an environment for the groups to contribute to the party’s activities and objectives across the country.
