U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested Obiageriaku Jane Iheanacho, a Nigerian national convicted of first-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult in Baltimore, Maryland.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced her arrest in a statement on Friday, identifying Iheanacho as a criminal illegal alien and listing her among individuals targeted for deportation.
According to the department, Iheanacho was arrested alongside other individuals it described as among the “worst illegal aliens” in the United States.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE had arrested people accused or convicted of serious crimes, including murder, sexual offences and robbery.
“Despite the dangerous and ugly rhetoric from sanctuary politicians that have resulted in a 1,600% increase in assaults against them, ICE will never stop enforcing the law, deporting illegal aliens, and protecting the American people,” Mullin said.
Iheanacho was convicted in 2023 while working as a geriatric nursing assistant at Autumn Lake Health Care Post Acute Care Center in Baltimore City.
She was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of first-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult.
During the investigation, surveillance footage showed Iheanacho pushing Ellsworth Johnson-Bey, a 75-year-old resident, to the ground. Johnson-Bey suffered a fractured left hip in the incident and later died.
ICE's arrest of Iheanacho could lead to her deportation to Nigeria following the completion of relevant U.S. immigration and criminal proceedings.
