The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has clarified that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi is not the godfather of any of her children, following the circulation of a video in which Obi appeared to suggest otherwise.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by her media aide, Dan Ezeigwe, after the video generated public interest and prompted enquiries from members of the media and the public.
According to the statement, the claim that Obi is a godfather to any of the children of Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his wife is incorrect.
The statement explained that while the two families have existing godparent relationships, they are not as described in the circulating video.
It stated that Dr. Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to Peter Obi’s daughter, while Obi’s wife, Margaret, is the baptismal godmother to one of the Soludos’ daughters.
“Neither Mr. Obi nor Professor Soludo has served as a godparent to the other's children,” the statement said.
The First Lady’s office suggested that Obi may have misspoken while making the remarks, but said the widespread circulation of the video made it necessary to clarify the facts.
“The relationship between the two families is cordial and there is no need to misrepresent it in any manner,” the statement added.
The clarification comes amid renewed attention to the personal relationship between the two political families, both of whom have strong ties to Anambra State.
The First Lady’s office urged members of the public and the media to take note of the clarification and disregard any impression that Peter Obi is godfather to any of the Soludos’ children.
