Senator Seriake Dickson has dismissed suggestions that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) owes gratitude to political figures joining its platform, insisting the party is not dependent on any individual.

He made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television *Prime Time* programme, where he addressed criticism from supporters of Peter Obi.

“Nobody is doing NDC a favour. Register your party if you think it is easy,” he said, pushing back against claims that the party should be thankful to anyone for its structure or opportunities.

Dickson said the NDC provides its platform to candidates rather than receiving favours from them.

“Rather, the NDC and I and my colleagues are doing people a favour by granting our platform,” he added.

He also reacted to online criticism directed at party leaders by Obi supporters, describing such behaviour as counterproductive.

“If you are genuinely supporting Peter Obi and you are disparaging me, the leader, or the platform itself, that is nonsensical,” he said.

On the party’s internal process, Dickson said Obi was selected as the sole presidential candidate without internal disputes and without financial inducements.

“Nobody paid shishi. So, if a presidential candidate didn’t pay shishi to be made the sole presidential candidate and sole vice-presidential candidate, that same party cannot be the one saying that small people are underprivileged,” he said.

He also rejected claims questioning his political standing, insisting he remains qualified to contest for the presidency.

“I could have run. There’s no one more qualified than me. None,” he said.

Dickson added that the party had been expanding its political base before the involvement of figures such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stressing that its growth is not tied to any single individual.

He maintained that there is no internal crisis within the party and described Obi as a valued member, saying the leadership remains united despite criticism from supporters online.
