Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, fled their homes on Tuesday after suspected armed herdsmen launched an early morning attack.
According to residents, the attackers entered the community and opened fire, forcing people to run for safety. The situation was still unfolding at the time of reporting.
A native of the community and the Labour Party's House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 election, Hon. Jimmy Nart, said he received reports that the attack was ongoing.
"I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself," he said in a message.
The latest incident comes less than 48 hours after suspected armed herdsmen attacked the Otukpo-Nobi community in the same local government area, where more than 18 people were reportedly killed.
As of the time of filing this report, the number of casualties from Tuesday's attack had not been independently confirmed.
Attempts to get an official response from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, did not respond to phone calls or a text message seeking confirmation.
Residents said many families had continued to leave the community as security concerns persisted.
