A Baptist Church pastor and nine other people have been killed in separate attacks on communities in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The attacks reportedly occurred between Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Six people were killed on Saturday evening when gunmen reportedly attacked passengers travelling to Gana-Ropp in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area. Several others were also injured in the attack.
A resident, Ukasha Garba, said the victims were residents of Gana-Ropp who were travelling to a neighbouring community to work on a farm.
In the early hours of Sunday, a Baptist Church pastor, his secretary and another person were reportedly ambushed and shot dead while travelling to church at Dorowa Babuje, also in Barkin-Ladi.
The incident reportedly disrupted church activities in neighbouring communities, with some residents staying away from services over fears of further attacks.
In a separate incident, a woman was reportedly killed on Saturday night at Beaten Wereng in Riyom Local Government Area, while another person was killed in Ratyidiin Fan District.
Rwang Tengwong, national publicity secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), confirmed the attacks and described the situation as concerning.
He called on security agencies to strengthen their presence in the affected communities, investigate the attacks and arrest and prosecute those responsible.
Tengwong also urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, while calling for proactive security measures to prevent further loss of lives and protect communities.
Tension reportedly remains high in parts of Barkin-Ladi, with some residents fleeing the area following renewed gunshots said to have been heard from the direction of Kantoma.
