Veteran Nigerian actor and screenwriter Taiwo “Ogogo” Hassan has died after battling stage-four cancer.
Hassan’s daughter, Kira, announced his death during an Instagram Live session on Sunday.
The actor’s death comes weeks after his daughters, Kira and Haleemah, disclosed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. They had appealed to Nigerians to support the family in exploring treatment options.
During the Instagram Live session, Kira was visibly distressed as she spoke about her father’s death.
“Help me call my sister, my family, my daddy is dead. I want to go home. I can’t believe this. I want to go and see my daddy before he gets buried,” she said.
Hassan’s colleague, actor Saidi Balogun, also confirmed the death in an Instagram post.
Balogun described the death as painful and prayed for Hassan’s soul.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now, my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” he wrote.
Hassan was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s Yoruba-language film industry, with a career spanning acting and screenwriting.
Further details about his death and burial arrangements are expected to emerge.
