Monday Okpebholo has alleged that some political actors are deliberately worsening insecurity in Nigeria in an attempt to distract the administration of Bola Tinubu.
He made the claim during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for local government elections in Edo South Senatorial District, where he linked recent security challenges to political interference.
Okpebholo said the pattern of insecurity being witnessed was not accidental, but orchestrated for political advantage.
“They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he said.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition,” he added.
He argued that those allegedly behind the unrest would not gain political office through such actions, whether at the National Assembly or presidential level.
“They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern,” he said.
The governor maintained that the current administration had recorded more visible progress than previous governments, pointing to ongoing projects in Edo State and the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
He also praised candidates emerging from the party’s primary elections ahead of the local government polls, expressing confidence in their performance and linking their success to broader electoral strength for the APC in future contests.
