Minister of Works David Umahi says the Federal Government is using road construction and rehabilitation projects as part of its strategy to improve security across the country.
Umahi said the administration of President Bola Tinubu is investing in strategic highways to support military operations, improve access to border communities and strengthen logistics for security agencies.
He spoke at the flag-off of road projects at Muna City Gate on the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru highway over the weekend.
According to the minister, the projects are expected to reconnect communities affected by years of conflict, stimulate economic activity and improve the movement of security personnel and equipment in the North-east.
He said the road network would also improve access to Nigeria's borders with Chad and Cameroon, supporting both regional trade and security operations.
“These road infrastructure projects are part of President Tinubu’s bigger plan to tackle insecurity,” Umahi said.
“When these projects are done, the people in the North-east will benefit because they connect to Chad and Cameroon.
“But the bigger point is that our military will have roads to fight against whatever remains of the insurgency.”
