The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says troops of the Armed Forces of Nigeria killed several terrorists, arrested more than 40 suspects and rescued at least nine kidnap victims during operations conducted across the country between May 15 and May 21.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Michael Onoja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to him, military operations carried out during the week targeted insurgent hideouts, criminal networks and illegal supply routes in different parts of the country.

In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai killed two terrorists in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and arrested four suspected collaborators linked to cattle rustling activities.

Onoja also said several insurgents and family members surrendered to troops in Dikwa following sustained military operations. Those who surrendered included two adult women and seven minors.

In the North-West, troops under Operation Fansan Yamma killed four terrorists and arrested a suspected gunrunner accused of supplying weapons to bandit groups.

The military also recovered a General Purpose Machine Gun, an AK-47 rifle and 216 rounds of ammunition, while a kidnapped school pupil was rescued in Katsina State.

Onoja said troops in Zamfara State repelled attacks on communities and destroyed terrorist camps during clearance operations.

In the North-Central region, troops involved in Operations Savannah Shield, Enduring Peace and Whirl Stroke arrested several suspects, including a gang leader and informants.

The military said N2.29 million believed to be ransom proceeds was recovered during the operations.

Troops in Plateau State arrested five suspects, while seven kidnapped victims were rescued in Kogi State. In Taraba State, security forces arrested a suspected gunrunner allegedly linked to the supply of 23 AK-47 rifles and killed two terrorists during operations.

In the South-South, troops of Operation Delta Safe arrested nine suspected kidnappers and other criminal suspects in Edo and Cross River states.

Security forces also dismantled illegal refining sites and recovered about 3,000 litres of stolen crude oil, alongside vehicles used for transporting illegal petroleum products.

In the South-East, troops of Operation Udo Ka arrested four illegal miners, recovered a locally made firearm and repelled a mob attack without casualties.

The DHQ said troops recovered several weapons and ammunition during the operations, including AK-47 rifles, G3 rifles and machine guns.

Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff commended troops for their conduct and commitment during operations across the country.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
