Unknown gunmen have attacked an Army outpost along the Igbeti–Igboho road in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, setting fire to a building and a patrol vehicle.
The attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, according to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command.
The command said it received a distress call reporting that armed men had invaded the Operation Burst base and immediately mobilised its operatives, alongside personnel from other security agencies, to the scene.
However, the attackers had left the area before the security team arrived.
Preliminary findings indicated that the gunmen, who reportedly arrived in large numbers, opened fire on security personnel stationed at the outpost before fleeing.
Security operatives subsequently searched the area in an attempt to locate the attackers, but no arrests were made.
No death was recorded in the attack, according to the security update. However, the attackers allegedly set fire to a block within the base and a patrol van, destroying both properties.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, told Channels Television that the attack occurred at an Army outpost along the Igboho-Igbeti road in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
“It was an army outpost along Igboho/Igbeti road. No life was lost but some properties damaged,” he said.
Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
