The United States has updated its deportation list, with 124 Nigerians named among 300 foreign nationals slated for removal under ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), those on the list have been placed on what it describes as its "worst-of-the-worst" criminal register. The agency has also published the names and photographs of the affected individuals.
While U.S. officials said those listed have been convicted of serious crimes, they did not disclose the specific offences committed or provide a timeline for when the deportations will begin.
The updated list is part of the DHS's broader immigration enforcement programme targeting non-citizens with criminal convictions.
The announcement has drawn attention in Nigeria due to the number of citizens included on the list. However, authorities have yet to release further details about the affected individuals or the legal processes leading to their planned deportation.
As of the time of reporting, neither the U.S. government nor Nigerian authorities had issued additional statements on the matter.
