Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked Logomani community in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State, burning a police outpost, a primary healthcare centre and two classrooms after launching an assault on a military base.

The attack occurred late Tuesday night after the insurgents targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Logomani, where one soldier was killed during the exchange of fire.

Residents said the attackers fired sporadically to force people out of the community before setting public facilities ablaze.

The Acting Military Information Officer for Headquarters Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammed Goni, confirmed the attack in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, troops at the Forward Operating Base under Sector One repelled the assault despite the attackers briefly breaching part of the base's defensive perimeter.

He said the soldiers regrouped and launched a counter-offensive that forced the terrorists to retreat after suffering heavy casualties.

"One soldier was killed during the operation, while two gun trucks and some combat equipment were damaged," Goni said.

He added that the base remains under the control of Operation Hadin Kai troops, with reinforcements deployed and clearance operations continuing in the area.

Residents described the attack as well-coordinated, saying the terrorists encountered little resistance before destroying public infrastructure.

A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said the attackers burned two classrooms, the police outpost and the community's primary healthcare centre after entering the town.

A security source said a joint team comprising the military, police and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force pursued the fleeing insurgents after the attack, but they had already moved a considerable distance.

The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, could not be reached for comment.

Following the attack, the Executive Chairman of Ngala Local Government Council, Mala Tijjani Ngala, visited Logomani on Wednesday to assess the damage.

He inspected the destroyed police outpost, healthcare centre and school and said the findings would be forwarded to the Borno State Government for urgent intervention.

Ngala also urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
