Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have evacuated 21 female students to a military barracks in Borno State after foiling an attempted terrorist attack near their hostel.
The evacuation followed intelligence reports that suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists carrying improvised explosive devices were sighted near the Water Board IDP Camp in Monguno Local Government Area.
According to an operational update released on Monday, troops of Sector 3 quickly moved the students to Kinnasara Barracks after detecting the threat. Three of the students reportedly suffered seizures during the evacuation but were stabilised at a hospital, while security around the area was strengthened.
The military also reported that troops at Forward Operating Base Logomani prevented an attempted infiltration of their position by ISWAP/JAS terrorists after the attackers were detected through surveillance cameras.
In a separate operation in Borno, troops of the 115 Task Force Battalion, alongside local hunters, engaged terrorists at Surajo village in Askira Uba Local Government Area. The attackers fled the scene, abandoning three bicycles and two coolers.
The military further disclosed that troops of the 247 Reconnaissance Battalion and hunters arrested a suspected kidnapper at Gaya in Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The suspect allegedly admitted to being part of a kidnapping syndicate operating from Solere Forest in Cameroon and crossing into Nigeria to carry out abductions.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation MESA, working with the police and local vigilantes, rescued a kidnap victim along the Koton Karfe-Okparake Road in Kogi State. Three suspected terrorists were arrested during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspects included one Dane gun, a motorcycle, three mobile phones and ₦23,000. The rescued victim has since been reunited with family members.
In Kebbi State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA responded to terrorist activity along the Wasagu-Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area. The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to retreat and abandon two motorcycles.
The military said ongoing operations across the affected areas are aimed at preventing further attacks and improving security.
