The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who died at a hotel in Dutse after reportedly checking in with a 20-year-old woman.

The police spokesperson in the state, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement shared on the command’s official Facebook page on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the man had checked into the hotel with the woman and later requested a meal. Shortly afterwards, he developed a medical emergency and was reportedly gasping for air.

Police officers from the Yalwawa Division responded to a distress call, evacuated him from the hotel and took him to the General Hospital, Dutse, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.

During an examination of the hotel room, detectives recovered food items, drinks, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings, which have been kept as part of the investigation.

The deceased’s body was released to his family for burial following their request, while the 20-year-old woman is assisting the police with information regarding the incident.

The command urged members of the public to avoid speculation, adding that the investigation would be conducted professionally and without bias.
