Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has dismissed claims that former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, died of cardiac arrest during sexual activity, describing the account as misleading.
Sani, in a post on X, said the report lacked credible evidence and was based only on a narrative without sufficient proof.
“The claim on circumstances surrounding Abacha’s death is misleading. The author couldn’t provide any convincing evidence other than literary narrative. It should be ignored,” he wrote.
His reaction followed revelations by former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, who alleged that Abacha died from cardiac arrest while with his girlfriend at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Amachree made the claim in his newly published memoir, *DSS @40: My Journey Behind the Shield*, where he stated that the incident occurred around 4:05 a.m. in June 1998.
At the time of Abacha’s death, Amachree was serving as Assistant Director of Operations and Intelligence at the DSS Lagos Command.
Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998, died suddenly at the age of 54. The official cause of his death was reported at the time as a heart attack.
