The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Chidera Anthony Eleh, popularly known as “Timaya,” over his alleged involvement in a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point-of-Sale (POS) operators and other victims in Awka, the state capital.

The suspect, described by the police as an ex-convict, was arrested on Friday, October 9, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation aimed at tracking down suspected perpetrators of motorcycle-enabled robberies across the state.

The police also recovered a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass and other items suspected to be linked to the alleged criminal activities.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the arrest in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, the arrest forms part of the command’s ongoing efforts to tackle robbery incidents involving the use of motorcycles and other related criminal activities.

Ikenga said the suspect remains in police custody while investigations continue to establish the extent of his alleged involvement and identify other individuals who may have participated in the reported robberies.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command also urged POS operators, commercial motorcycle riders, business owners and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station.

The police said further information would be made available as investigations progress and weekend patrol operations commence.
