The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has adopted President Bola Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, with the party targeting 50 per cent of the votes in Anambra State.

Anambra State Governor and APGA national leader, Chukwuma Soludo, announced the decision on Friday in Awka during the inauguration of the party’s national campaign for the 2027 elections.

Soludo said APGA would not field its own presidential candidate, declaring that Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would receive the party’s support.

“APGA has no presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections and will, therefore, adopt President Tinubu as its preferred candidate,” the governor said.

He explained that the decision was consistent with APGA’s previous practice of supporting the presidential candidate of the party in power.

Soludo said Tinubu had demonstrated goodwill towards the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State. He cited the president’s appointments of several Anambra indigenes to strategic positions during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.

The governor also pointed to the Federal Government’s response to challenges facing Anambra and the wider South-East, despite the relatively low number of votes Tinubu received in the state during the 2023 presidential election.

According to Soludo, Tinubu secured approximately 5,000 votes in Anambra in 2023, but his administration had continued to address issues affecting the state and the region.

“We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state,” he said.

Soludo urged Anambra residents to support Tinubu in 2027, arguing that doing so would strengthen the state's position in engaging the Federal Government on development priorities.

He said political support for the president would give Anambra and the South-East a stronger platform to negotiate for infrastructure and other development needs.

The governor also declared APGA’s intention to secure 50 per cent of the votes in Anambra for Tinubu in the next presidential election.

“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra. We are targeting 50 per cent for the president,” Soludo said.
