The Nigerian Army has rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, after she was abducted from her residence in Abuja on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
Two suspected members of the kidnapping syndicate were also arrested during follow-up operations, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Army said troops from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison launched a coordinated operation shortly after the abduction. Soldiers were deployed along several suspected escape routes as they tracked the kidnappers and worked to locate the victim.
According to the Army, credible intelligence led troops to the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, where they encountered the kidnappers. The suspects reportedly abandoned Mrs Adonkie and fled into nearby bushes as troops closed in.
She was later rescued at Angwan Sabo Village.
The Army said troops subsequently expanded the operation along the Aco Estate–Angwan Sayawa axis, with additional personnel deployed to block possible escape routes.
On Wednesday, September 2, troops intercepted two suspected members of the group near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The Army said an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Clearance and tracking operations are continuing across the area as troops work to locate and arrest other members of the syndicate.
The Army commended residents for providing information and cooperating with security personnel. It also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property in the Federal Capital Territory.
The military said it would continue working with other security agencies on intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping networks and other criminal activities in Abuja and surrounding areas.
