The City Boy Movement (CBM) has inaugurated its Lagos chapter and announced plans to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, with a target of delivering eight million votes from the Southwest.
The inauguration, held at Marcellina’s Place in Ikeja, Lagos, brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, local government chairmen, youth representatives and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at the event, the Lagos Director-General of CBM and Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, said the movement aims to strengthen youth participation in national development while building grassroots support across the country.
He said the organisation would focus on engaging young Nigerians in civic activities and promoting values such as national unity, discipline and constitutional responsibility.
According to Ogunlewe, the movement's activities will extend beyond electoral campaigns to include initiatives centred on education, opportunity creation and long-term youth development.
"Every youth in Nigeria is welcome into the group. Our strategy is to campaign across the country, reaching every ward, community and polling unit," he said.
National Director-General of CBM, Tosin Shoga, described the Lagos inauguration as an important step in expanding the movement's platform for youth engagement and participation in governance.
He said the group is committed to taking the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration to grassroots communities across Nigeria and urged the newly inaugurated Lagos executives to serve with integrity and discipline.
Chairman of Conference 57 and Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Sesan Olowa, pledged the support of Lagos council chairmen for the initiative, saying they would work towards securing victory for President Tinubu in Lagos State during the 2027 election.
Amir Kashim Shettima (Jnr.), co-patron of the movement and son of Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Moremi Ojudu, called on members to communicate the administration's policies and programmes to communities nationwide. They highlighted achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
The movement's Southwest Coordinator, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, disclosed that the region has set a target of delivering eight million votes for President Tinubu in 2027.
"We in the Southwest promised President Tinubu nothing less than eight million votes, and you are the ambassadors of those votes," he told members.
Representing Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the party's State Vice Chairman, Moshood Maiyegun, said the City Boy Movement has the potential to deepen youth participation in politics and called for stronger collaboration between the APC and youth-based organisations.
The event also featured a documentary presentation on the movement's objectives and a musical performance by Nigerian artiste 9ice.
Among the dignitaries present were the founder of the movement, Oluwaseyi Tinubu, represented by National Secretary Tosin Odufuwa; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (Northwest), Abdullahi Tanko Yakassai; and other APC leaders and stakeholders.
