The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and upload the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC leader, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, September 10, 2026.
Dickson said the judgment was delivered by Justice J.O. Abdulmalik following a suit filed by the party over the logo used by INEC.
According to him, the NDC had asked the court to compel INEC to recognise the modified logo contained in the party’s constitution instead of the association logo under which it was initially registered.
Dickson explained that the party’s first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting approved the modified logo and forwarded it to INEC. The commission initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it without notifying the party of the reason.
INEC subsequently reverted to the old association logo, prompting the NDC to seek legal intervention after efforts to resolve the matter failed.
Dickson welcomed the court’s ruling, saying it affirmed the party’s position and the need to follow due process.
He urged NDC candidates and members to immediately adopt the constitutionally approved modified logo on campaign materials, including banners, posters and other publicity materials.
The former governor noted that both logos feature the two-finger victory sign but maintained that the modified version is the authentic logo specified in the party’s constitution.
“We understand that some candidates and party members may have already made arrangements using the other logo, and we regret the inconvenience this may have caused,” Dickson said.
“However, both logos retain the two-finger victory sign. Candidates should now transition to the logo approved in our party’s constitution, which is the authentic party logo and, indeed, the one that is more widely recognised.”
Dickson described the dispute as part of what he called administrative challenges the party has faced.
