A Magistrate Court sitting in Gyadi-Gyadi, Kano State, has ordered the remand of 25-year-old Maimunatu Idris, who is accused of cutting her boyfriend’s genitals with a knife.
Idris was brought before Justice Sadiya Usman of Court No. 40 on charges of causing grievous bodily harm and attempted murder.
During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Barrister H. A. Sani Buhari, sought the court’s permission to read the charges to the defendant.
Idris admitted to the charge of causing bodily harm, an offence within the jurisdiction of the magistrate court. However, she did not enter a plea to the attempted murder charge, which the court lacks jurisdiction to hear.
The prosecution subsequently requested a date for the continuation of the case. The court adjourned the matter until September 9, 2026.
Justice Usman also ordered that Idris be remanded in prison custody pending the next hearing.
According to reports, Idris, a native of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested on July 27, 2026, following an alleged attack on her boyfriend at Durbar Hotel in Kano.
She reportedly invited the man to the hotel before allegedly attacking him with a sharp knife after discovering that he planned to marry another woman.
The victim was taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital for emergency treatment. Police reportedly recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack and arrested Idris at the scene.
