FIFA has suspended Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo for five matches following the challenge that left Canada international Ismael Kone with a broken tibia and fibula during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Madibo was sent off during Qatar's 6-0 defeat to Canada last Thursday after the incident involving Kone. FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has now imposed a five-match suspension, citing serious foul play. The decision is subject to appeal.
Kone, who plays for Italian club Sassuolo, underwent surgery shortly after the match in Vancouver.
Madibo has since visited the 24-year-old in hospital following the operation.
