Gunmen have killed Toba Ajiboye, the organising secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), after attacking him on Sunday night.

Ajiboye was reportedly returning from his childhood neighbourhood in the Fadeyi area of Lagos when the assailants intercepted his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis and opened fire.

He and other occupants of the vehicle were said to have sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. However, Ajiboye later died from his injuries.

The chairman of the Lagos NURTW chapter, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, confirmed Ajiboye’s death in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

Adekunle described Ajiboye’s death as a major loss to the union, saying he was a loyal member and a committed colleague.

“Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council, was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation,” Adekunle wrote.

He added that Ajiboye’s support and dedication to the union would be remembered, while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and members of the NURTW.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, and no arrest has been reported.
