Police in Rivers State have arrested a 30-year-old man, Richard Emmanuel, over the alleged killing of his girlfriend, Caroline Sunday, in the Eneka community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Abraham Street on Saturday, July 11, following an argument between the couple.

According to residents, the dispute began after the suspect accused the deceased of infidelity and later turned violent. During the altercation, Emmanuel allegedly pushed Caroline, causing her to hit her head against the edge of a wall.

Neighbours who responded after hearing her cries found her lying in a pool of blood. They attempted to assist her before alerting officers from the Eneka Police Division.

The suspect was reportedly prevented from fleeing by residents before police arrived and took him into custody.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Her body has since been deposited in a mortuary pending an autopsy.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect is being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Port Harcourt.
