Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election, describing the results as unacceptable and inconsistent with a credible process.

In a statement following the conclusion of the exercise, Amaechi said he could not accept what he called “concocted results,” citing reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement during the primaries held across the country.

He said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome if the process was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.

“I had initially stated that I will only accept the outcome of the Primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.

Amaechi argued that a significant portion of party members were unable to participate in the voting process, questioning the legitimacy of the outcome.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he stated.

He also criticised what he described as a contradiction between the party’s public stance and its internal conduct, noting that the ADC had positioned itself as an alternative to the ruling system.

He added that a party which had previously accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of electoral malpractice could not itself be associated with similar practices.

“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results, cannot be engaged in vote buying, writing of results, and other electoral malpractices,” he said.

Amaechi, who is among the aspirants for the ADC presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections, said the situation undermines the party’s stated mission of offering Nigerians a credible political alternative.
