A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly beating his 20-year-old wife to death following a dispute over food preparation in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Rahman Nansel, said the incident was reported to the Agyaragu Police Division at about 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving information that the suspect had allegedly assaulted his wife, leaving her with fatal injuries.
The victim was taken to the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, where she was confirmed dead and her body was preserved for further examination.
According to the police, Amodu, who had been married to the deceased for six years and had two children with her, was arrested shortly after the incident.
Nansel said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation, claiming that an argument broke out after his wife refused to prepare food, which escalated into a physical assault.
"The suspect was promptly arrested and, during interrogation, allegedly confessed to committing the act," the police spokesperson said.
He added that the suspect reportedly expressed remorse over the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation.
The police said the suspect would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
Mohammed condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic and avoidable case of domestic violence. He urged families to resolve disagreements through dialogue and lawful means, stressing that no dispute should result in the loss of life.
The command also assured residents that Agyaragu and surrounding communities remain calm, with security personnel continuing to monitor the area.
