Three suspects have been arraigned before High Court 13 in Abuja over the alleged murder of businessman Adimike Godwin in the Guzape area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The defendants — Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade — were arraigned on Monday, according to the FCT Police Command.
Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the court ordered that the three suspects be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre and adjourned the case until September 30, 2026, for further proceedings.
Adeh said the incident occurred on May 15, 2026, after a relative of the deceased alerted the Guzape Divisional Headquarters that Godwin could not be reached.
Detectives who responded to the report found the businessman unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to Karu General Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
According to the police, five people were initially arrested during the investigation, including two of the deceased's children, his driver, his gateman and Comfort Ajibade. After investigations, prosecutors filed charges against three of the suspects.
The defendants are facing a four-count charge, including criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
Police said all three suspects were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide over Godwin's death.
Anthony is also facing a separate charge of allegedly entering into a same-sex civil union, while Stephany and Ajibade were jointly charged with the same offence under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
The court ordered that the three defendants remain in custody pending the next hearing scheduled for September 30.
