The suspects were arrested by personnel of Naval Outpost Onitsha deployed at the Forward Operating Base Amiyi following intelligence reports linking them to criminal activities in Ogbaru Local Government Area.
According to preliminary findings, one of the suspects is believed to coordinate the group’s operations in parts of the affected communities, while the other four were identified as members allegedly involved in the network’s activities.
Security sources also disclosed that investigators uncovered locations allegedly used for secret meetings and recruitment operations.
The Navy said the arrests form part of ongoing efforts to support internal security operations and counter violent extremism within joint operational areas.
