Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday held a meeting with his main challenger in the party’s primary, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
The meeting comes days after the party’s presidential primary, in which Atiku secured the ticket ahead of Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. The contest was closely followed within party circles and marked a competitive race for the nomination.
Amaechi had rejected the outcome before the official announcement of results, alleging that the process was affected by irregularities. His position added tension to the aftermath of the primary, as party stakeholders weighed how to manage internal disagreements.
In his acceptance remarks after emerging winner, Atiku called for unity within the party and urged all contestants and supporters to work together ahead of the 2027 general election.
Details of Thursday’s discussion between both men were not disclosed. Neither Atiku nor Amaechi spoke to journalists after the meeting.
However, party insiders said the engagement is part of wider consultations aimed at calming internal disputes and bringing key figures in the party back into alignment following the primary outcome.
