Troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, have recovered arms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation targeting a suspected criminal hideout in Rivers State.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of July 23, 2026, at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis.
According to the Nigerian Army, the raid followed credible intelligence indicating that the forest enclave was being used by criminal elements as a base for planning kidnappings and attacks on security personnel and civilians.
Items recovered during the operation include one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. Troops are continuing clearance operations in the area as part of efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.
The Army said the latest recovery marks the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms and ammunition by troops operating in the South-East within the last two weeks. It attributed the development to intelligence-driven operations and collaboration among security agencies and members of the public.
Military authorities noted that sustained operations have disrupted the activities of armed groups and reduced their ability to threaten lives and property in affected communities.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements through coordinated operations with other security agencies. It also urged residents to support ongoing efforts by providing timely and credible information to security personnel.
Operation UDO KA remains one of the military's ongoing security initiatives aimed at improving safety and stability across the South-East.
