Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDO KA have recovered and exhumed the remains of Chief Ibe Anyadu, a community leader from Aggah in Imo State, after a suspect linked to his alleged murder led security operatives to his burial site.
The recovery was carried out on Sunday, August 2, 2026, during ongoing operations under Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in the South-East.
According to the Nigerian Army, the development followed the arrest of suspects connected to the killing of an Army personnel and the recovery of stolen service weapons. During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly admitted involvement in Chief Anyadu’s killing and provided information that led troops to the location of the grave.
The suspect guided troops to a shallow grave inside Umudike Forest, identified as one of the gang’s known camps, where the remains of the late community leader were exhumed.
The exercise was witnessed by members of Chief Anyadu’s family, vigilante personnel from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives of Aggah and Umudike communities. The family provided a coffin and ambulance for the transportation of the remains for burial according to their customs.
Commander of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, expressed condolences to the family and assured the Aggah community that the suspects would face prosecution in line with Nigerian law.
He said the military would continue working with relevant stakeholders to disrupt criminal activities, bring perpetrators to justice, and support affected families through lawful processes.
The Army also urged residents of the South-East to continue providing credible information to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains important to ongoing efforts against violent crimes in the region.
