Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described his decision to choose former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as his running mate as the biggest mistake of his presidency.
The remark signals a renewed strain in the relationship between the two political figures, whose alliance broke down during their second term in office between 2003 and 2007.
Obasanjo and Atiku served together after winning the 1999 and 2003 presidential elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Their relationship later deteriorated amid political disagreements, leading to a prolonged public fallout before they eventually reconciled.
Obasanjo's latest comment suggests fresh tensions between the former allies, although further details surrounding the statement were not immediately available.
