The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a woman, Sadiat Yunusa, for allegedly strangling her co-wife’s three-year-old daughter to death in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ilorin on Friday, July 31, 2026, where he highlighted recent achievements recorded by the command.

According to the commissioner, preliminary investigations showed that the incident was linked to resentment and jealousy arising from a prolonged domestic dispute.

Ojo said the suspect claimed her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife.

“The suspect said that her husband had neglected her and her three children in favour of his second wife,” the police commissioner stated.

The case was reported at the Kaiama Divisional Police Headquarters on July 25, 2026.

The commissioner explained that the victim, identified as Ummaiyat, was left in the care of a family member while her mother went to the Kaiama Central Market.

He said the suspect allegedly took the child to a nearby farm settlement, where she strangled her.

“Prompt investigative efforts led to the arrest of the suspect, who, during interrogation, voluntarily confessed to the commission of the offence,” Ojo said.

The police command said further investigations into the case are ongoing.
