Security operatives have uncovered a cache of weapons allegedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a joint operation in Enugu State.

According to a statement by Operation UDO KA, troops of the 82 Division Garrison under Sector 1, working alongside operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, carried out the operation on June 9, 2026, as part of Operation EASTERN SANITY II.

The operation followed intelligence obtained from suspects previously arrested in connection with IPOB and ESN activities.

Acting on the information, security personnel conducted a follow-up raid in Gariki, Enugu South Local Government Area, where they discovered a concealed arms depot inside a zinc structure reportedly disguised as a piggery.

Items recovered from the site included General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

"The discovery was made possible through actionable intelligence generated from ongoing investigations and coordinated security operations," Operation UDO KA said in the statement.

Military authorities described the operation as evidence of the growing effectiveness of collaboration among security agencies in tackling security threats across the South-East.

"This operation underscores the value of inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-driven actions in dismantling criminal and terrorist networks operating within the region," the statement added.

The recovered weapons, along with the arrested suspects, have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Operation UDO KA reiterated its commitment to sustaining efforts aimed at disrupting armed groups and restoring stability in the region.

"We remain committed to identifying, tracking and dismantling all criminal elements threatening the peace and security of the South-East," the statement said.

Security agencies also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.

"The support of the public remains critical to maintaining peace and security. Citizens are encouraged to share useful information with security agencies," the statement added.
