Seven students of the Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Mgbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area, were injured after armed men invaded their hostels in the early hours of Tuesday.
Sources said the attackers entered the hostels at about 1 a.m., assaulted students and carted away personal belongings during the operation.
The injured students were taken to hospital for treatment and are reportedly responding well, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Some members of the school community attributed the incident to inadequate security infrastructure, noting that the hostel area lacks perimeter fencing and a security post.
The spokesperson of the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack. He said police operatives were deployed immediately after the incident was reported.
According to him, the assailants had fled into nearby bushes before officers arrived at the scene. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the suspects and recover stolen items.
The injured students are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the college had not issued an official statement on the incident.
The attack has raised concerns among residents and members of the school community over student safety. Some have called on the state government and security agencies to strengthen security measures around schools to prevent further attacks.
