Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he expects to be among the first politicians targeted if President Bola Tinubu loses the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the statement while speaking during a media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, monitored in Abuja on Wednesday.
The minister was reacting to the political risks associated with his decision to openly support Tinubu’s bid for a second term. He said his support for the president had made him a prominent target of opposition politicians.
“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.
Wike said he was aware of the possible consequences of his political position but remained committed to supporting Tinubu’s re-election.
According to him, the president’s victory in 2027 has become his central political objective, regardless of the criticism or personal consequences that may follow.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.
The FCT minister also dismissed criticism of his support for Tinubu, saying he had faced sustained attacks and name-calling because of his political alignment with the president.
Wike said he was not concerned about the opinions of his critics and would continue to back Tinubu.
“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their own thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he said.
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, has emerged as one of the most outspoken supporters of Tinubu among politicians outside the president’s All Progressives Congress.
His political alignment with Tinubu has continued to attract debate within opposition circles ahead of the 2027 election.
