Activist Aisha Yesufu has responded sharply to comments made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, after he mocked her over her inability to secure a senatorial ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The exchange began during a luncheon in Port Harcourt on May 30, 2026, where Wike referenced Yesufu while addressing political discussions around public criticism and electoral performance.
Wike questioned her credibility in light of her failed primary bid, saying: “There’s one woman who said Wike is an appointee of government and that she has no business with appointees.”
He continued by pointing to her loss in the party process: “You speak grammar, speak grammar. Ordinary primary of NDC… just ordinary NDC, what happened? She didn’t make it.”
He also criticized what he described as online political commentary disconnected from electoral realities, adding: “It’s easy for people to talk… when the time for data has come, what happened?”
Yesufu responded shortly after on X, rejecting the remarks and challenging Wike directly to mention her name openly.
“If dem born Wike well, make e call my name with his full chest!” she wrote.
She also referenced Wike’s own political setback, saying his loss at the 2022 PDP presidential primaries was evidence that electoral outcomes cut across all political figures.
“Yesufu had earlier dismissed Wike’s influence in Abuja politics, describing him as an appointee without decisive control over outcomes in the capital,” according to her past remarks during her campaign period.
Yesufu recently shifted political alignment from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC ahead of the Abuja senatorial race. She later withdrew from the contest, alleging that the party’s primary process was manipulated and lacked transparency.
