According to report from daily post, the incident comes after months of relative calm in the state, following intensified security operations targeting armed groups and suspected gunmen operating in parts of the region.
Eyewitness accounts said the officers were on routine patrol when they were ambushed and shot at close range. Their patrol vehicle was later seen parked by the roadside, while the bodies of the officers lay on the main road after the attack.
A commercial tricycle operator who was passing through the area said he first heard heavy gunfire ahead and immediately abandoned his vehicle to take cover in nearby bushes. He later returned to the scene and saw the aftermath of the attack before continuing his journey.
In a voice note shared afterwards, the eyewitness said he initially thought one of the officers might still be alive and called on anyone with access to police authorities to alert them.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident, and efforts to reach its spokesperson were unsuccessful.
