A Nigerian feminist has said she would not participate in elections if it meant voting for a male candidate.
In comments shared publicly, she stated that she sees no reason to obtain a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) for the purpose of supporting a man in an election. “I would rather not vote than get my PVC to vote a man,” she said.
She added that her position is based on the belief that male leadership has contributed to global challenges. According to her, “men are responsible for every challenge facing countries around the world,” while also claiming that countries led by women tend to perform better.
She further argued that even where women support male candidates, it is often conditional and pragmatic. “If women believe a male candidate would make a country better, they will willingly line up to vote for that person,” she said.
However, she alleged that many male voters would not support female candidates, even in difficult economic or security conditions. “Men would rather endure inflation, banditry, and President Bola Tinubu than vote for a woman, simply because they hate women,” she claimed.
The feminist also made broader cultural claims about gender roles, saying that women often overlook their own influence while patriarchal attitudes persist in society. She described misogyny as widespread in Nigeria and beyond.
Her comments have circulated widely online, drawing mixed reactions across social media platforms.
