The National Youth Service Corps has withdrawn corps members from Kaiama LGA following growing security concerns linked to possible abduction threats in the area.

Two affected corps members confirmed that they received redeployment letters shortly after the Eid-el-Kabir holiday and were instructed to leave their current locations immediately for other local government areas within Kwara State. They said the decision was tied to safety concerns.

One of them explained that they were directed to relocate without delay, with officials citing intelligence around possible targeting of corps members.

Another corps member said reports had circulated for weeks suggesting that armed groups linked to Boko Haram could attempt kidnappings in the area. According to the corps member, fears centered on the possibility of using abducted personnel as leverage for ransom negotiations.

A youth leader in Kaiama confirmed that all corps members posted to the area had been moved out. He added that while the redeployment was enforced for security reasons, some corps members were reluctant to leave.

He also stated that the National Youth Service Corps National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had suspended postings to Kaiama indefinitely due to the prevailing situation.

The withdrawal comes amid renewed anxiety in parts of Kwara North over recent attacks and abductions attributed to suspected insurgents.

Earlier reports indicated that families of victims abducted from Woro community alleged that captors were still holding women and children taken during a deadly February raid. The attack left more than 200 people dead and dozens abducted, making it one of the deadliest incidents in the state in recent years.

Residents have continued to call for stronger security action as the prolonged captivity of victims fuels tension across affected communities.
