Tension spread through parts of Oyo State on Tuesday after parents rushed into a primary school in Ijeru, removing their children amid unconfirmed reports of violence in a nearby area.
The disruption occurred at Ijeru Baptist Basic School I and III, where academic activity was abruptly halted when guardians forced entry into the premises and evacuated pupils over fears linked to alleged armed activity around the Ajawa axis.
Videos and images obtained from the scene showed parents breaking through the school gate and gathering children in haste, with classes suspended as confusion spread across the compound.
A resident who witnessed the incident said the situation escalated after claims circulated within the community suggesting that armed attackers had moved into nearby settlements. According to the source, the reports were not confirmed.
Parents reportedly ignored reassurances from school staff who insisted there was no direct threat to the school. Some teachers attempted to restore order while reaching out to security operatives for clarification.
Security contacts later indicated that the disturbance in the wider area was connected to a local clash rather than an armed bandit incursion, according to accounts shared by school officials at the scene.
The incident adds to growing anxiety across parts of Oyo State, especially in communities around the Ogbomoso axis, where recent attacks on schools have heightened public concern.
In earlier incidents in Oriire Local Government Area, armed assailants reportedly abducted students and staff, including the principal of Community High School, Ahoro‑Esiele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu.
One of the teachers abducted alongside her, Michael Oyedokun, was later confirmed killed, with reports indicating he was executed in a video circulated by the attackers.
