The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, has said President Bola Tinubu deserves to remain Nigeria’s president for a “long, long time.”
Ladoja made the comment on Monday at the flag-off ceremony for the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Addressing the gathering, the monarch dismissed the framing of the event as an All Progressives Congress (APC) affair and praised Tinubu for supporting the road project.
“I’ve been hearing everybody talking APC, APC. Bola Tinubu is not an APC man, no. Bola Tinubu is working and deserves to be president for a long, long time,” Ladoja said.
“This is not an APC rally. It is a rally that we are here to thank Mr President for making this road project possible.”
The Olubadan also highlighted the security challenges previously associated with the Ibadan-Ijebu route, particularly incidents of kidnapping.
“Those of us in Ibadan know that the only area in Ibadan where terrorists have been kidnapping people is this road,” he said.
Ladoja further described Tinubu as a president for all Nigerians rather than a leader of the APC alone.
“Mr Tinubu deserves more than being an APC president. He’s not an APC president. He’s president of Nigeria,” he said.
The monarch did not state a specific number of years for which he believes Tinubu should remain in office. However, Nigeria’s Constitution limits a president to two four-year terms.
Tinubu began his current term as president in May 2023 and is constitutionally eligible to seek a second term in 2027.A useful next step would be to add a short “What the Constitution says” sidebar to make the report more informative and distinguish Ladoja’s statement from Nigeria’s legal term limits.
