Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says he has never had an intimate relationship with another woman since marrying his wife, Sherifat.
Aregbesola made the statement while speaking at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking in Yoruba, the former Osun governor said he regarded marital fidelity as a personal test of his devotion to God.
He told party supporters that he had remained faithful to his wife since their marriage and said only a few men could make the same claim.
“Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it. What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife,” Aregbesola said.
He then linked his personal commitment to his political hopes, saying he had asked God to make it possible for the ADC to take control of the Osun State Government House.
“I told God that next June, we must do it at the government house,” he said.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election. He faces Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Folasayo Salaam of the ADC.
